Exercises to Slim-How to Get A Toned Lower Body

If you are looking for exercises to slim to you can  lose the baby belly fat, not only do you need to concentrate on having a flat belly, but also a nicely toned body overall.

I was just reading an article from Fitness Magazine called "Firm Your Hips, Thighs, and Butt" By Alyssa Shaffer. There were lots of great moves that were recommended which can really help you have a fantastic body in no time flat. Here is blurb of what Alyssa says:

"Solutions for Stubborn Trouble Zones

Practically everyone knows that Pilates can help you sculpt beautiful abs. But devotees of the ever more popular workout have a secret: It's also a great way to get sleek thighs, a tight tush, and a totally toned lower body. You don't have to squander your savings on expensive studio lessons to reap the benefits.

"You can get the same great leg and glute workout on your own as you would on fancy equipment like the Pilates Reformer by changing moves to a standing position and incorporating tools like weights and stability balls," explains Michele S. Olson, PhD, a professor of exercise science at Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama.

"The added resistance helps target all the muscles of the lower body while strengthening your core and improving your balance." Olson, who created the following workout (that's also her modeling the moves!), recommends working up to two sets of 15 to 18 reps using a 9- to 12-pound body bar or barbell. Do these exercises three times a week for eight weeks and you'll show off enviable legs and an amazing butt to go along with your firmer middle."

I personally take Pilates reformer sessions once a month and was quite interested in learning other moves I can do at home too. To see more of these great moves, click here to visit Fitness Magazine!

Health Tip: Don't Overeat When Dining Out - MedicineNet

Health Tip: Don't Overeat When Dining Out

(HealthDay News) -- Ordering large portions when dining out can easily foil your dieting plan. Fortunately, many restaurants are offering smaller portion sizes for diners with an eye on the waistline.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers these suggestions for weight-conscious diners:

  • Skip the entree and order an appetizer and a salad for your meal.
  • Stick to a smaller serving, such as a cup of soup or a child-size portion.
  • Eat half of your meal at the restaurant and take half home to enjoy later.
  • Share each course with someone else, or just split an entrĂ©e.

This article start out by saying that "Ordering large portions when dining out can easily foil your dieting plan. Fortunately, many restaurants are offering smaller portion sizes for diners with an eye on the waistline." I think this is very sound advice. Every time I eat out, I always make sure I check the nutrition menu before I even go to the restaurant. It helps me to keep my caloric intake in line for the day!

How to Lose Baby Belly Fat-Get Rid of Belly Bloat

How to lose baby belly fat is a challenging enough endeavor for many women! When one adds belly bloat on top of it, things may seem pretty dismal.

The good news is that the baby belly can disappear over time, with the right mindset, accountability partner, nutrition plan, and exercise. Even better, a bloated belly can be taken care of very quickly.

I happened to be reading an article from Shape Magazine about 15 ways to get rid of belly bloat. The tips were very simple so I thouhgt I'd share them with you.

How to Banish Belly Bloat-15 Tips for a Flatter Stomach by Hallie Levine

We've all been there: days when you feel as bloated as the blow-up Shrek in the Macy's parade. Okay, sometimes you know that having that third helping of your sister's peach cobbler wasn't the best idea. But when you're eating right and exercising regularly but still can't zip up your skinny jeans, what gives?

"One of the main causes of bloat isn't how much you eat; it's eating certain foods that are difficult for your stomach and intestines to digest," explains Christine Gerbstadt, MD, RD, a dietitian in Sarasota, Florida, and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. "These substances then pass into your colon, where bacteria feed on them, producing the gas bubbles that make your stomach swell up."

About 20 percent of adults experience bloating, according to one study from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, but "anecdotally that number is much higher. Most women I see in my practice complain about bloat at one time or another," Dr. Gerbstadt says. "The good news is that with some simple diet and lifestyle changes, you can reverse that bloated feeling, fast." Start with these smart tips, which can help you flatten your belly for good.

Lace up.
If your waistband feels snug after dinner, head outside for a brisk 10-minute walk. Physical activity helps air bubbles pass through your digestive tract quicker, explains Dr. Gerbstadt, so that bloated feeling will disappear faster than if you lounge on the couch. In fact, one of the worst things you can do on "fat" days is skip your workout: Moderate exercise, like biking for 30 minutes three times a week, significantly improved bloating and other symptoms in people with irritable bowel syndrome in a new Swedish study.

Pop a probiotic.

Sometimes bloating can be caused by an imbalance of the bacteria in your intestines, especially if you have been taking antibiotics to treat, say, a urinary tract infection or sinus infection, explains Sita Chokhavatia, MD, a gastroenterologist at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Probiotics can help restore the bacterial balance, but not all brands have proven that they work: Bifidobacterium infantis is the only probiotic strain that studies show relieves GI symptoms, such as bloating, a Northwestern University review found. Dr. Chokhavatia recommends trying a two-week course to see if it helps.

Divide your dairy.
More than one in 10 adults are lactose intolerant, and bloat is a common side effect, according to a 2009 Baylor College of Medicine study. But if you suspect that milk, yogurt, and other dairy products are causing your belly bulge, you don't have to worry that you'll miss out on their benefits, namely lots of calcium and protein. Lactose-intolerant people can handle at least 12 grams of lactose (the amount in a cup of milk) with minor or no symptoms, researchers at the National Institutes of Health say.

"For people with lactose concerns, I recommend they spread their dairy intake throughout the day -- say, a half cup of milk with their breakfast cereal, and cheese with crackers in the afternoon," says Tara Gidus, RD, a nutritionist in Orlando, Florida. "Choose dairy that comes from yogurt and hard cheeses, such as cheddar and provolone, which are digested more easily." If even small amounts of dairy cause stomach upset, switch to lactose-reduced or lactose-free products.

Just breathe.
If you've ever had an urgent need to find a bathroom before a big race or presentation, you're no stranger to the internal effects of stress. "When you're anxious, your body releases cortisol and adrenaline, hormones that stimulate your digestive system," explains Yuri Saito, MD, assistant professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The result: You experience more gas, bloating, and even the runs.

Compounding matters, stress causes many people to overeat or eat the "wrong" things, Dr. Saito notes, adding extra fuel to their overstimulated digestive system. If you can't eliminate the stressful circumstance, you may be able to manage it through cognitive behavior therapy or hypnotherapy; these two mind-body techniques are surprisingly effective in treating symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, including bloating, a 2009 Canadian review found. Meditation or simple mindful breathing can also offer some relief. Practice it at home for a few minutes every day: Sit in a quiet space, close your eyes, and inhale through your nose for a count of 10. Focus on breathing deep and sitting tall. Exhale through your mouth in a controlled, purposeful fashion for 10 counts. Repeat 10 times.

Fine-tune your fiber.
A lot of cereals are advertised as being high in fiber, which should be good for your digestive system, right? Not always. Certain products add fiber in the form of chicory root, or inulin, which is harder to digest, says Kristin Kirkpatrick, RD, a wellness manager for the Cleveland Clinic Lifestyle 180 program. In fact, people who eat large amounts of inulin (10 grams) at one time end up experiencing more gas and bloating than those who eat less, researchers at the University of Minnesota in Saint Paul found. Your best bet: Get your fiber from fruits and vegetables and whole-grain rice, pasta, and bread rather than from packaged high-fiber products. And check the labels on your favorite cereals, cookies, and granola bars: If they contain chicory fiber, they most likely have inulin.

Get Rid Baby Belly Fat-10 Ways to Fire Up Your Metabolism

I  I was just reading an email from Web MD last week about how to fire up your metabolism. When it comes to getting rid of the baby belly fat, I thought these 10 sure-fire ways would be great tips for a lot of you ladies out there.

The slide show started off by saying that "Boosting the metabolism is the holy grail of weight watchers everywhere, but how fast your body burns calories depends on several factors. Some people inherit a speedy metabolism. Men tend to burn more calories than women, even while resting. And for most people, metabolism slows steadily after age 40. Although you can't control your age, gender, or genetics, there are other ways to get a boost".

Tip # 1 Build Muscle "Our bodies constantly burn calories, even when we’re doing nothing. This resting metabolic rate is much higher in people with more muscle. Every pound of muscle uses about 6 calories a day just to sustain itself, while each pound of fat burns only 2 calories daily. That small difference can add up over time. In addition, after a bout of resistance training, muscles are activated all over your body, increasing your average daily metabolic rate".

Tip #2 Step Up Your Workout Aerobic exercise may not build big muscles, but it can rev up your metabolism in the hours after a workout. The key is to push yourself. High-intensity exercise delivers a bigger, longer increase in resting metabolic rate than low- or moderate-intensity workouts. To get the benefits, try a more intense class at the gym or include short bursts of jogging during your regular walk.

Tip #3 Fuel Up with Water The body needs water to process calories. If you are even mildly dehydrated, your metabolism may slow down. In one study, adults who drank eight or more glasses of water a day burned more calories than those who drank four. To stay hydrated, drink a glass of water or other unsweetened beverage before every meal and snack. In addition, try munching on fresh fruits and vegetables, which are full of fluid, rather than pretzels or chips.
