How to Lose Weight Plan - Four Easy Summer Dieting Tips

It's finally summer! It is time to put on shorts and swim suits, get outside, and enjoy the wonderful weather. Hopefully you have been successfully sticking to your how to lose weight plan and have lost some weight! Now, you are ready for a summer of fun. Here are some quick tips to spur continued weight loss while you are enjoying the warm breezes.
Tip #1: Pick up a set of delightfully colorful summer dishes in small sizes. Instead of a huge dinner plate, buy the lunch or salad plate and a small bowl. If others in the household are also dieting, pick up a set for each person. Filling a small plate keeps food portions under control but doesn't look like you are depriving yourself. There are so many subtle psychological aspects of losing weight. You can overcome this one by simply using smaller dishes.
Tip #2: Plan when you will exercise. If the heat is too much for you to be outside exercising in, switch your walk to early morning or late evening when the sun is low in the sky. There can be a thirty-degree difference in temperature depending on the time of day. So go out while it is cool and enjoy your walk as the birds begin to sing at dawn. Being happy while you exercise is another of the psychological aspects of dieting. No one wants to stick with an exercise plan that is unenjoyable!
Tip #3: Find your local farm markets. Local vegetables, herbs, and fruit are readily available at the many popular farm markets. Since many communities have them right downtown, you can combine an interesting walk through your downtown area while purchasing healthy, local food. Weight loss is so much easier if you base your meals on fresh vegetables and fruits. These are low calorie, high fiber, and high-nutrient foods that boost health and help melt away the pounds.
Tip #4: Buy a stainless steel water bottle and keep it full of water, carrying it with you everywhere you go. Like it nice and cold? Fill it half full and place in the freezer, and then top it off with water just before you leave. Save all the quarters you would have wasted on high calorie pop and buy yourself a pool pass.
Now that its summer, you can still achieve that beach body you want my including these 4 simple tips into your on-going how to lose weight plan!

Weight Loss Plan for Women Over 40: You Won't Believe Where the Sugar Is!

For those of us who are looking for an effective weight loss plan for women over 40, most of us who are dieting know we need to watch our sugar intake, In fact, if we are trying to improve our health, we are probably aware that refined sugar and other sweeteners might be one of the primary causes of the meteoric rise in obesity and diabetes. Sugar has plenty of empty calories, and if you aren't burning them off, they end up as fat. So, we know to stay away from an excess of desserts and sugary sodas. If we do this, we will be fine, right?

In reality, this is not the case! There is much more! Sugar, often in the form of high fructose corn syrup, is found where you would never suspect it, raising the empty calories in food. Researchers think that because sugar was a rarity when humans were evolving (i.e. only found in fruits and honey) that humans have now developed a craving for it. Savvy manufacturers have taken advantage of this and are adding sugar to foods that you would never dream of! The result is the food ends up having high sugar content. You won't lose the pounds if you are not aware of where the sugar is!

Making everything you eat at home from scratch is the perfect way to control your sugar intake. However, in reality, in today's world it is not a practical solution for most people. Don't just look at the total calories on the nutrition label of processed foods you buy. Make sure you also take a good look at the amount of sugar in it. Just below the section for "Total Carbohydrates," you will see it broken into fiber and sugar content.

As you look at everything from spaghetti sauce to crackers, compare labels and pick the product with the least grams of sugar. Watch out especially for high fructose corn syrup as an ingredient. Many health professionals advise people to avoid this ingredient if they want to lose weight and stay healthy.

Here are even more shockers when it comes to sugar content. Some flavored yogurts have almost three times the sugar of a doughnut! Little crackers and meat and cheese lunch meals have over three times the amount of sugar a donut has. One can of cola has four times the sugar, and a vanilla frappuccino grande has almost six times!

If you are want an effective weight loss plan for women over 40, you can watch the pounds melt away if you cut down on sugar. Become a food label detective!

How to Lose Weight Plan: Why Exercise Along with Calorie Reduction Is the Key to Weight Loss

Weightloss pyramid.Image via Wikipedia
We’ve all heard that an effective how to lose weight plan must include caloric reduction along with exercise. Now, research has shown how effective this can be. An interesting study was done using monkeys to determine the difference in weight loss between a group that had a reduction in calories only and a group that combined reduction of calories with exercise. I’m sure you can guess which group was successful!

The interesting thing the researchers found was this: when they cut the caloric intake of the monkeys, their activity level declined. This appears to be a function of the reduction in calories, a natural defense mechanism of the body during times of scarcity. The monkeys who only had a reduction in calories lost no weight at all. Their bodies compensated for the fewer calories by slowing down their activity levels.

The second group of monkeys was trained to run on a treadmill for an hour every day along with having a reduction in calories. These monkeys did lose weight. So what is the lesson for humans who are trying to lose five, ten or twenty pounds? It means you might have to make a bit of an effort to maintain or increase your activity levels when you start dieting.

As you work on reducing calories by eating smaller portions of food and closely watching calories in everything you eat, you will want to make an exercise plan that will be easy to follow. Don’t come up with activities that are inconvenient or expensive. Pick some kind of exercise that you’ll enjoy- that’s the key to sticking with it.

If you love nature, find a park with hiking trails and walk one to three miles at least three times a week, preferably every day. If you love dancing, just turn on the stereo and dance in the living room every day for 30 minutes or more. Get the bicycle out of the garage and take a daily bike ride. Buy a new leash for the dog and take a mile walk once in the morning and once in the evening. Your dog will love it!

Although this study confirms what we all guessed- you have to combine exercise and diet to lose weight- it explains why it is so important. So, as part of your how to lose weight plan, make sure you are eating clean and getting your exercise. If you do this, those excess pounds will begin to really drop off!
